To Our Partners and Allies in the Daphne Foundation Community,
After over three decades of supporting grassroots organizations in New York City, we are writing to share that the Daphne Foundation is preparing to spend down its assets over the next few years. Our goal is to make focused and increased investments in community organizing infrastructure that protects, defends, and expands a multi-racial and inclusive democracy.
As we face rising threats of white nationalism and anti-democratic forces, this direction reflects a shift to creating a community-owned legacy that contributes to lasting, transformative change. While some foundations withdraw or take a neutral stance, we are leaning into the challenge with greater intensity, knowing bold action is required to counter the threats we face. We believe our investment in community organizing is central to strengthening democracy and dismantling harmful systems.
More information regarding the spend down process will be made in the fall of 2025. Now is the time to invest in lasting solutions and relationships.
We invite you to join us by supporting initiatives such as the Anti-White Nationalism (AWN) Pooled Fund, which focuses on countering white nationalist movements, and Solidaire’s Movement Protection Fund, which provides rapid response funding to protect activists and movements.
We look forward to walking this path together as we enter this new chapter.
